Stupid People

Today I was finally getting my house organized-somewhat-after the holidays and was putting away the Thanksgiving turkeys the kids made telling what they were thankful for. Here is Cieras:

I asked her why she was thankful for stupid people. Her reply, "They make me laugh." So when you see a "stupid person", just remember that Ciera is thankful for them.

For Travis...

Well, it appears that there is a new era of LAL vs. BOS. The days of short shorts are long gone. (Thank you John Stockton for retiring). The Magic no-look pass is gone along with Kareem's sky hook. No more Danny Ainge, Larry Bird, Robert Parish, or Kevin McHale. We will miss James Worthy's bug eye goggles.
We are welcoming the new era of basketball. Long shorts, tights, and the shooting sleeve. We can't forget that you can't buy love, but you can buy forgiveness with a $2 million diamond ring and a messed up butterfly tatoo on your arm.
You can welcome the quasi Yankees of basketball. Boston bought their team, but with all the money they spent they actually won. We can only hope that the Memphis Grizzlies somehow turn their season around and play the Chicago Bulls for the chamionship.

Now the point of this whole thing. LA beat Boston to end their winning streak at 19 games. As much as I dislike the current Lakers, it dislike the Celtics more. They can't even say their name right. Enough rambling. Give me the glory days of Rambis vs. McHale. The days when a foul was legitimate and not because somebody breathed on you.

1344

What is so magical about 1344? Is it the fact that it was a leap year? Or, is it because it was the year Tenochtitlan, the capital of the Aztec civilization, was founded?

No, 1344 is significant, more appropriately, $13.44 is significant because that is what it cost to fill up Pearl. Normally $13.44 would barely fill-up my 3-wheeled lawn mower -- yes 3-wheeled lawn mower, yes it should have 4 wheels, but it doesn't. Before anyone starts in, Pearl is bigger than my lawn mower, not by much, but she is bigger, and she has all 4 wheels.

I was minding my own business on an early Monday afternoon when I noticed the gas gauge uncomfortably close to the 1/4 mark - scars from my formative years, if it's near 1/4 tank, I think I'm almost out of gas. I pulled into a gas station and began filling up when a strange thing occurred -- I was at 2 gallons and the total was somewhere in the $3 range. With baited breath, I awaited the final tally --- around 8 gallons of gas for $13.44. I haven't taken a math class without a calculator since I was in the 5th grade, but my long-hand mathematicianer skills tell me that is about $.48/gallon, give or take.

As I replaced the nozzle and pressed NO for the receipt and then NO for the CAR WASH and then saw the advertisement for a Hot Dog and a 44 oz. drink only $1.99, I felt alive again. I could go get that Hot Dog and that 44 oz. drink without remorse. I enjoyed my early afternoon snack under the only tree near the gas station with a handful of day laborers. We may not have spoken the same language, but we were all basking in that same freedom of cheap gas and stale hot dogs.

Yet another Halloween

I am so glad that Halloween is over and done with. The kids always have such a hard time deciding what to be and usually can't decide until just a few days before. This year we were able to recycle parts of other costumes.

Vocab...

I have found myself increasingly more these days adding an "ies" on just about everything. It just seems like the appropriate LINGO. So appropriate that I'll probably end up slipping and telling a co-worker I need to go "potties" instead of just "please excuse me while I head to the restroom..."

Anyway, these are some of my favorite pictures, with just the right jargon describing them:

"Smilies"

"Yawnies"

"Pretties"

"Footsies"

"Funnies"

So flippin' "cuties"

"BYUsies Onesies"

"Sleepies"

"Maddies"

"Bathies"

"Sweeties"

"Dr. Seussies"

doer or collector

As most of you know, Mom is a self-proclaimed "collector." She will quickly admit to her habit/need to collect, especially fabric for quilt projects. I have tried to not follow too closely in her footsteps in this regard and buy fabric for actual projects, even if I never seem to get around to them. Well, the other day I was rummaging through my storage bins to locate my box of Halloween costumes. I came across a bin that had, according to the label, a couple of different quilting supplies (not fabric). Upon opening this bin, I did find the cutting tools that the outside had promised. I also found at least 5 yards of fabric; there were no less that 8 different patterns. And, I have no clue what these pieces were bought for. Don't worry, I like them and I'm sure they will all look great in my collection!

Mel was right.

Ady would make a great Wednesday for Halloween.

is it just me...

or does it look like Travis is trying to steal Macee's dress for himself?

NY-BOS

I am a little late on this, but oh well. It won't even be complete for a bit as I got about a day behind in Chemistry because of the trip. I will update with pictures, but for the moment, just know that Manrichment (minus Matt) was freaking awesome....except for the poser Yankees who called the game on account of "rain."

Ciera's First Date

I know it's hard to believe that I could have a 16 year old daughter, but somehow or other I do. Here's a picture of me (with my short hair) and Ciera.

Ciera had a "day date" to play laser tag, pizza for dinner and now she's at the dance. Here's her date-Cody.

winner, winner!

As many of you may (or may not) know, I was asked to participate in a chocolate chip cookie bake off at work today. Well, the results are in and the winner is (drum roll please): ME!

It's so nice to know that I have fulfilled a life long dream of making perfect cookies. If you're interested in the award winning recipe, please send me $1 and all the praise, laud and honor I deserve. (Or, just ask me really nicely!) And, if enough requests are made, I will share a batch of these yummies at our next family gathering.

PS--for further proof of the amazingness of said cookies, just ask Pops, Meggie, Josh, Justin, Michelle, Grey, Brookie, Lula and Posh.

The Past Few Days...

So here are a few pictures of me over the past few days. I'm starting to get adjusted to everything although my parents are starting to look a little ragged for some reason. Hey, when you got to eat, you got to eat, right?

So Mom and Dad had this wise idea yesterday to give me my first bath. For the first couple of pictures I was alright with it.

Still Good...

Not so good...

Not bad at all!

Me & Mom

Me & Dad

A little warm...

Feeling good.

Just chillin'

oh the mems

As I'm sitting here at work wondering how much fun all the kiddies in Salt Lake are having on this stupidly sunny day, I am taken back to a better place. A place where 80% humidity and 100 degree weather go hand in hand. A place where I really have no idea what mom did all day while we played outside. Yes. Texas in the summer. Things like:

-playing the football game on the tramp after church
-Josh and me taking those white flour buckets in the pool and putting them over our heads while the other sat on top so we could breath underwater. we definitely thought we were cool.
-sleeping with my swimsuit under my pajamas thinking mom couldn't tell

What else? And what about California? I hardly remember anything from Mandarin Drive beside Josh eating all the cherry tomatoes and drying off on the cement.

July 23, 2008

So, I've officially hit 36 weeks. Who wants to weigh in on when, exactly, I'll have Trece and how big she'll be? I'd like to say I have a prize for the winner, but let's be honest. I'll have just had a baby and won't be good for much of anything. Are bragging rights enough of a prize?

bling, bling

Guess what Posh did this weekend! Justin called as they were headed to Provo and told me I should ask Posh what she wanted to do. Well, her reply was "get my b-ears bierced" (get my ears pierced). I guess since I've been a part of the torture of Juddy's other two, he decided to include me this time as well. So, off we went to the mall to do just that!

This kid has no idea what she's in for!

The ear marking might have been more frightening.

The second one wasn't so bad.

What is that face?

OK, get ready, here it comes!

Well, she did cry, but only for about 15 seconds. As soon as the girl offered her a sucker, all tears stopped. All afternoon and evening, she was thrilled to show off her ears. If you asked her what was in her ears, she'd reply, "bling, bling." Well, she did get 4mm pink "diamonds" and while 4mm isn't very big, it's huge on a tiny 2 year old. According to Juddy, she continues to show them off to anybody that will look. Fortunately, we didn't traumatize her too much. Hey Trav, are we getting your girls ears pierced when I'm in Texas in September?
